Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/16

Manchester at Whitko
Seven innings weren’t enough to decide a winner between Manchester and Whitko Monday evening. The Lady Squires would go on to win 7-6 in eight innings. Manchester is now 5-18 this season, 3-5 in the Three Rivers Conference, while Whitko falls to 2-13, 1-6 in the TRC.
It was a huge day at the plate for Manchester’s Paxton Baker, as she went 3-3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Samantha Shock scored two runs for the Lady Squires. Kaitlyn Cripe drove in two runs for the Lady ‘Cats, hitting a double in the process. Despite the loss, Whitko’s Cassidy Skinner was fantastic on the mound, striking out 17 hitters.
Both teams are on the road against Conference opponents Wednesday, with Manchester traveling to Tippecanoe Valley and Whitko playing at Wabash.
Concord at Warsaw
Warsaw dropped its eighth game in a row Monday night, falling 7-2 to Concord at home. The Lady Tigers are now 2-17 this season, 2-10 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Mia Rodriguez drove in both of the Warsaw runs, going 1-3 at the plate. Milana Whitaker led the team in hits with three, followed by Adelynn Williams who had two. Warsaw is back in action Thursday night at home against Mishawaka.
Wawasee at Goshen
Wawasee fought hard but was unable to pick up a win in a low scoring game against Goshen Monday night, falling 3-1 on the road. The Warriors are now 12-10 this season, 5-7 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
The lone Wawasee run was driven in by Ava Couture on a double. Haylee Allen also added a base hit while striking out four on the mound and giving up four hits.
The Warriors will look to get back in the win column Wednesday night at home against Concord.
Northfield at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley won its second game in a row Monday night, defeating Northfield 12-1 in six innings at home. The Lady Vikings are now 13-6 this season, 6-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.
The Lady Vikings are at home Wednesday against Manchester.
Baseball
Concord at Warsaw
Warsaw won its second game in a row Monday night, defeating Concord 3-2 at home. The Tigers are now 14-10-1 this season, 8-5 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Josh Shapiro went 2-3 on the day, hitting a home run and driving in two. Kellan Bailey also added an RBI on his 1-3 day. Brandt Martin struck out six in his four innings of work.
Warsaw is on the road Wednesday evening when the team will take on Mishawaka.
Goshen at Wawasee
Wawasee was unable to get enough going offensively to hang with Goshen Monday evening, falling 15-4 in six innings. The Warriors are now 3-18 this season, 1-12 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Wawasee faced off against Manchester Tuesday night at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne. Details from that contest will be in tomorrow’s Times-Union.
Northfield at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley earned another conference win against Northfield Monday evening, picking up a 5-2 victory. The Vikings are now 9-8 this season, 6-2 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Cody Smith drove in two runs in the game, going 1-3. Evan Myers went 2-3 with a double, scoring two runs in the process. Cameron Manuel struck out nine batters in seven innings of work, giving up just one earned run.
The Vikings are back in action Wednesday evening at home against Manchester.
Manchester at Whitko
Nine innings were needed to declare a winner between Manchester and Whitko Monday evening, with the Squires coming out on top 4-3. The Squires are now 10-11 this season, 4-4 in the Three Rivers Conference, while the Wildcats fall to 15-5, 5-3 in the TRC.
Ethan Hendrix and Evan Martynowicz each had three hits for Manchester, with Martynowicz also adding an RBI while striking out five on the mound in six innings. Brent Bowers went 2-3 for Whitko, driving in a run and hitting a double. Breyden Kirkdorffer also had two hits for the Wildcats. Max Platt struck out nine in seven innings.
Manchester’s Tuesday night game at Parkview Field will be featured in tomorrow’s paper. The Wildcats play their next game Wednesday at Wabash.
South Bend Career Academy at Triton
Triton picked up a big win over Career Academy Monday, winning 13-2 in five innings. The Trojans are now 8-14 this season.
Braxton Kaufman went 3-4 with two runs driven in and another scored. Jacob Pitney also had three hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Maddox Dennie struck out four in 2.2 innings of work.
Triton is at home Thursday evening for a contest against Caston.
Tennis
Warsaw at Bremen
Warsaw wrapped up its regular season with a 4-1 victory over Bremen. The Lady Tigers are now 8-5 this spring heading into sectional play.
No. 1 singles player Addie Lind was dominant, winning her match 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles player Emma Van Puffelen won 6-0, 6-2. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Avery Landwerlen and Clara Porter won 6-2, 6-2.
The Lady Tigers play their first sectional match Thursday at home against Wawasee.
Northfield at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley picked up a highly contested Senior Night victory over Northfield Monday evening, winning 3-2. The Lady Vikings end the regular season with a 10-6 record.
No. 2 singles player Lydia Miller won 6-2, 6-0. No. 3 Talia Holder earned a 6-1, 6-0 win. No. 1 singles competitor Karegan Callahan won 6-3, 6-2 to secure the match.
Valley takes on Whitko at Warsaw Wednesday night to begin sectional play.
