Lawrence A. “Jack” Horney Jr., 98, Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Grace Village Health Care.

Jack was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Sterling, Colo., to Hazel Morton Horney and Lawrence Horney Sr.

At the age of 17-½ Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 19, 1942.  He was a World War II veteran who served on the USS George Clymer and was honorably discharged Jan. 5, 1946.

He was married Oct. 28, 1948, to Dorothy Mae Bockelman; she died May 25, 1984. Jack  married Mary Lou Robertson on March 29, 1985; she died Aug. 8, 2004.

Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 23 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.  Jack’s life will be celebrated by Father Jonathan Norton with a funeral mass following visitation at noon Tuesday, May 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw. Military rites will be conducted by members of the American Legion Post #49, V.F.W. #1126, both of Warsaw, and active-duty members of the Navy Honor Guard. He will be laid to rest at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Memorial donations may be directed to Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana, P.O. Box 5, Huntertown, IN 46748.
