Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/7

Rochester at Warsaw
Warsaw continued its hot stretch of play Saturday morning with a 5-2 win over Rochester. The Tigers are now 10-7-1 this season, having won five of their last six games.
Logan O’Malley and Austin Polk both drove in two runs for Warsaw, with Polk tying Josh Shapiro for the team lead in hits with two. Corbin Johnson got the win on the mound, striking out two in 3.2 innings, allowing no earned runs.
Warsaw is back on the road Monday evening against conference foe Plymouth.
Wawasee at Goshen
Wawasee was held scoreless in its conference game with Goshen Saturday morning, falling 10-0 on the road. The Warriors are now 2-13 this season, 1-7 in the Northern Lakes Conference. The team will look to snap a four-game losing streak against NorthWood on Monday evening.
Manchester at DeKalb
Manchester dropped a highly competitive game to DeKalb Saturday morning, falling 3-2 on the road. The Squires are now 8-9 this spring.
Manchester was only able to manage two hits on the day, one from Gavin Hendrix and the other from Ethan Hendrix. Gavin Martin drove in a run. Garrett Sites struck out three in 6.1 innings of work, giving up three runs.
The Squires resume conference play Monday evening at home when the team faces off with Peru.
Triton at Winamac
Triton was unable to pick up a win during its doubleheader with Winamac Saturday morning, falling 9-7 and 11-10. The losses drop Triton’s record to 6-12 this season, 3-6 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Drew Bingamon went 1-4 with a double and an RBI in game one, as well as having two runs scored in game two. Zac Greer had two runs driven in during the second game.
The Trojans are back in action Tuesday evening on the road at Culver Community.
Whitko at Bellmont
Whitko’s six-game winning streak was snapped Saturday morning in a 10-3 road loss to Bellmont. The Wildcats are now 13-3 this season.
Breyden Kirkdorffer and Max Platt each notched a base hit and a run driven in. Kirkdorffer had the lone extra-base hit for Whitko, a double.
The Wildcats return to conference play Monday evening at home against Southwood.
Softball
Goshen at Wawasee
Wawasee battled hard but was unable to pick up a conference win against Goshen Saturday morning, falling 7-6 at home. The Warriors are now 11-7 this spring, 4-4 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Brooke Catron had a run driven in for Wawasee while Ari Garcia and Jaclynn Worrell each added a hit. Haylee Allen had nine strikeouts on the mound, giving up just two earned runs.
Wawasee is back in action Monday evening on the road at NorthWood.
Oak Hill at Whitko
Whitko was unable to pick up a win in its game against Oak Hill Friday night, falling 7-2 at home. The Lady ‘Cats are now 1-11 this spring.
Addie Garr went 2-3 with a solo home run. Garr also pitched 4.2 innings, striking out five. Brooklyn Cooley had a hit and a run driven in.
Whitko plays its next game Monday evening at home against Southwood.
Track and Field
Manchester/Tippecanoe Valley/Whitko at Three Rivers Conference Invite
Three local teams competed at the Three Rivers Conference Invitational at Wabash Friday night, with Whitko taking second place in the girls division and Manchester taking second in the boys. Tippecanoe Valley finished fifth in each division, with Maconaquah taking first in both.
Whitko’s Gwen Howard put her name into the record books once again, setting the TRC record for shot put with a throw of 43’5.75”. The previous record has been held since 1978. Howard also took first place in the discus with a throw of 120’5” as well as first in the 400M.
For the second straight season, Tippecanoe Valley’s Chesnee Miller won the 800M race. Miller wasn’t the only athlete to take home gold for the Vikings, as Dalton Alber took home first place in the shot put with a throw of 45’6”.
Manchester also had its fair share of winners on the day, with Kolby Haecker taking first in the high jump and Jordan Ayres taking first in the discus for the boys. On the girls side, Aliala Atienza took first place in the 100M hurdles.
