Vendors saw the farmers markets in Warsaw and Winona Lake Saturday as a benefit to their business.

Ana Bryant, with Hill & Dale Farm, participated in the farmers market in Winona Lake selling different types of packaged meat. The cows were grass fed and the swine were on non-GMO feed.

Bryant said Hill & Dale Farm was at the farmers market Saturday to have a presence in the community and to sell good products.

There is so much to having a community presence at the farmers market and seeing the people they sell products to, and hopefully people walk away a little more aware of what they’re eating and putting in their bodies, she said.

Heather Metzger, with Hufford Family Dairy, who also was at the Winona Lake farmers market, said  they haven’t done much marketing in the area and they’d like to do more in Kosciusko County. She said the farm has 25 cows and they wholesale milk and cheese to stores and restaurants. She said they were selling cheese and maple products with plans on selling items like green beans and sausage.

Being at the farmers market is a great marketing grab due to all the people that attend and Metzger hopes it brings more sales to the farm.

Becky French, of The Rusty Bucket French Farm, has a 100-year-old farm in Warsaw. She said she’s a beekeeper, and everything they produce on their farm, they put in their products. French said some of the products that were being sold at the Kosciusko County Farmers & Artisans Market in downtown Warsaw included candles, honey and bath products.

She said farmers markets are wonderful because the community loves to support local farms. She’s a generational farmer and “we’ve always given back to our community.”

At the Kosciusko County Farmers & Artisans Market Saturday, Janelle Meyer, program manager with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), said CASA wanted to get the word out about the organization and get more supporters.

“So we just wanted to get out here where the community is and share more of what we do,” she said.

CASA won’t be at the farmers market every week, but will be at the farmers market several weeks, as well as other festivals. They were doing a giveaway and had a photo opportunity with giant red chair.

The Kosciusko County Farmers & Artisans Market is located in downtown Warsaw (on Center Street between Buffalo and Lake streets) every Saturday, May through October, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
