By Staff Report-

Lakeland Art Association announced a number of upcoming events for May and June.

From May 3 to June 3 is the Warsaw Community High School art showcase. Reception information is to be determined.

The association’s garage sale fundraiser is May 12-13 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Set up is May 11 and help is needed for both.

On June 3 is the kids tent at The Village Winona from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Juried art show entries will be accepted June 4, with the show opening June 7 and closing July 23. Awards are 2 to 4 p.m. June 25.

Art Speakeasy is June 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the gallery. The gathering will be one Tuesday evening each month. It is a time for lovers of art to gather and discuss art. It might also be a time for those brave in heart to bring their art and have other artists critique or help figure out what isn't or is working in the piece. This will be a very relaxed time and there is no cost to attend the Speakeasy.

The Lakeland Art Association Board of Directors is looking for a treasurer. It is a one-year term and training is included.

The Lakeland Art Association landline phone is no more. Due to the rising cost for the landline phone and internet, the board of directors voted to change to a cell phone and internet through Verizon. The phone number is the same.

Daniel Trump has volunteered to develop a figure study program. This will not be nudes. He is wanting to develop skills in drawing texture, lights and darks, the draping/shaping of fabric on the body and proportions. It is his belief that others might also like to develop those same skills. More details to be announced.

Art classes/workshops in the works are:  Hillarie Couture, beginning acrylics; John Kelty, a six-hour watercolor class; and Don Wilka, Zentangle class. Other artists contacted to teach are Tammy Davis, acrylics; Kim Andert, upcycled hat making class; and Andrew Beverly, adult drawing class. If you have a suggestion or would like to teach a class, call 574-457-6085.

Lakeland Art Center & Gallery is at 302 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw. The telephone number is 574-267-5568; email  is [email protected]; website is www.lakelandartassociation.org; and Facebook.com/Lakeland Art Association.
