Alcohol To Be Allowed At Miller Sunset Pavilion
By Leah Sander-
That was done at the Winona Lake Town Council’s meeting on Tuesday.
Previously, the council had banned serving the beverage in town-owned public buildings, the category under which the pavilion falls.
The town thought the change was necessary as with the ice rink now closed until next winter, the pavilion may be rented for concerts, parties and other events.
The pavilion is the only building granted the special exception.
The council also discussed requiring those having alcohol at their events at the pavilion paying an off-duty police officer for security as part of the rental agreement they will sign.
The council also amended some of the Winona Lake Police Department’s standard operating procedures.
“We had some new changes that came from the state … One of them was for pursuit policies,” said Winona Lake Police Chief Joe Hawn, adding that the other amendments applied to use of force and the department’s Taser and K9 policies.
In other business, the council:
• Heard the World Compassion Network will have the Run/Walk for Hunger 5K starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Winona Lake Limitless Park. People may find more information on the event by visiting runsignup.com/Race/IN/WinonaLake/WCNs10thRunWalkforHunger.
• Heard from Winona Lake Parks Department Director Holly Hummitch the “Egg My House” fundraiser for WLLP is returning this year.
People may pay to have eggs filled with goodies placed at homes in Warsaw or Winona Lake on April 7 or 8 by placing orders by noon March 31. People may order by stopping by the parks office at 1590 Park Ave., or clicking on the form under winonalake.net/parks-department/news/easter-egg-my-house-fundraiser.
The council’s next meeting is 6 p.m. April 18 at Winona Lake Town Hall.
