Mahendra P. Kamdar

He was born on Sept. 4, 1935, in Rajkot, India, to Vijia Kamdar and Parmananddas Kamdar. He graduated from Bharda New High School in Bombay in 1953. He then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Bombay in Mathematics and Physics in 1958. With interest to continue his education, he moved to the United States and attended Fort Wayne's Indiana Institute of Technology from 1958 to 1961, receiving degrees in structural and civil engineering.
In June of 1961, he married Dinna Lee Parker, of Decatur. They started a family and moved to Youngstown, Ohio, for his first post college employment at De Bartolo Construction Company. The family then moved to Pennsylvania in 1965, eventually settling in Monroeville, Pa. In 1975 they divorced, the family relocated back to Indiana and Mahendra remained in Pittsburgh and began self-contracting under his own company, Kamdar Corporation. Many jobs took him mostly from Pittsburgh to Buffalo, N.Y., but also included several trips to Eastern Europe.
In June of 1980, Mahendra married Bharati Parekh of India. In 2002 they retired and returned to India. He and his wife, Bharati, have a home in Talegoan, India, and maintained residence in Warsaw. They obtained dual citizenship, allowing them to travel frequently to and from India and the United States to connect with family and visit with friends. Mahendra enjoyed traveling all of his life and has seen much of the world in his lifetime. He loved and was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grands. In retirement, he also enjoyed tutoring children in the community where he lived in Talegoan and Pune.
He leaves behind his wife, Bharati Kamdar, India; son, Ashok Kamdar, Florida; two daughters, Sarita Carlin and Gita Kamdar, both of Warsaw; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind one nephew, Kamdar, and family in Maryland; three nephews, (Shah) and their families in Mumbai; and many sisters, nieces, nephews of Bharati’s family in the U.S. and India. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shushlia Shah; and his brother, Pravin Kamdar.
Mahendra’s life was celebrated by his family and he will forever be loved and remembered.
