The Kosciusko County 4-H Poss-ABILITIES Program will host Poss-ABILITIES Day July 12 during the Kosciusko County Fair at 1300 E. Smith St., Warsaw.
The day will celebrate the “Poss-ABILITIES" of the 4-H program and the community of Kosciusko County with an annual showcase and community resource fair, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County 4-H Poss-ABILITIES Committee.
The community resource fair will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the north end of the John Anglin Memorial Show Arena. Representatives from the following agencies will be present to showcase their organization: Magical Meadows, Advocacy Links LLC, Bowen Center, Cardinal Services,
Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Connections Case Management LLC, Joe’s Kids, Fellowship Missions, Inspire Waiver Case Management, Lighthouse Autism Center, Live Well Kosciusko and Breathe Well Coalition, MyTEAM TRIUMPH and more. The annual showcase will end the event from 3 to 4 p.m. in the show arena.
The Poss-ABILITIES Program makes interactive livestock experiences and other 4-H
opportunities accessible for youth of all backgrounds and abilities. Participants, in kindergarten through 12th grade, are paired with experienced 4-H family mentors to help them care for and exhibit livestock at the showcase.
“I get to meet new people and learn new things,” participant Railly Miller said regarding Poss-ABILITIES. “I get to experience things I never would have before this program. I have made some lifelong friendships with some of my mentors. This program has helped me step out of my comfort zone.”
Miller will share more about his experience during the showcase. Guest judge Mayor Joseph Thallemer will ask participants questions about their projects and what they learned this year.
Participants will exhibit swine, sheep, rabbits, cattle and goats. Former mentor, Valerie (Messmore) Sausaman, is now a member of the Poss-ABILITIES Program committee.
Sausaman said, “This program showcases that 4-H is for everyone, no matter the obstacles. The program builds life skills in the mentor and the participant. Each of them learn to gain confidence and knowledge from their peers. This program is one of a kind to bring a new viewpoint to 4-H for all.”
Questions regarding the Poss-ABILITIES Program, community resource fair or showcase can be directed to the Kosciusko County Purdue Extension Office at 574-372-2340 or [email protected].
