A good and faithful servant, Robert Allen Border went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 22, 2023, with his wife and daughters by his side in his home in Bourbon. He was almost 88 years old.

A lifelong resident of Bourbon, Robert was born on July 21, 1935, to Gladys Watkins and John Border. He graduated from Bourbon High School in the class of 1954. He was involved in high school judging teams and was president of his class.

Robert married his high school sweetheart, Zada Klingerman, on Sept. 6, 1957. They have been married for almost 66 years.

Robert grew up on the family farm and after a farming accident, it changed his occupational course. He went to school in South Bend for tool and die design. He worked hard, working at a job, and going to school, finishing a four-year degree in two years. After working at Rockwell in Knox, he was soon offered a job with OEC Orthopedics Company in Bourbon, working in the tool and design field and sales force. Upon OEC merging to Biomet Orthopedic Company, Robert joined the company’s trauma team as a design engineer, working alongside doctors to invent implants and instruments for orthopedic surgery. Robert retired after 42 years with the orthopedic industry.

Robert enjoyed collecting Aladdin lamps with his brother Jerry and antiquing and refinishing old furniture. He enjoyed gardening and attending all his grandkids many sporting and 4-H events. He loved the 4-H fair every year, spending time with his family, and flying rockets and kites with his grandkids.

Robert enjoyed his church family and friends and was one of the founding members of the Country Church in Bourbon. Robert always had a huge heart for people. Not only for his family, but for others. He was always looking to help others and wanted people to know Jesus and to see Jesus in him.

Robert is survived by his wife, Zada Border, of Bourbon; his daughters, Lorle (Brent) Cooper, of Tippecanoe; Julie (Lee) Dienfenbaugh, of North Manchester; his grandchildren: Tyler Cooper, of Tippecanoe; Travis (Megan) Cooper, of Indianapolis; Taryn (Ron) Mau, of Oxford, Miss.; Trent (Sarah) Cooper, of Columbia City; Cedric Dienfenbaugh, of Indianapolis; Simon Dienfenbaugh, of North Manchester; and Sydney Dienfenbaugh, of North Manchester; his great-grandchildren, Auggie Mau and Jack Copley; his brother, Jerry (Mary) Border, of Bourbon; and his sisters, Sarah Feldman, of South Bend; and Shirley Everest, of Warsaw.
