Warsaw’s boys golf team enjoyed a tremendous victory at Rozella Ford Golf Course Friday morning, winning the IHSAA golf team sectional championship. The Tigers shot 313 as a team to take first place over Northfield’s 318 and Culver Academy’s 319. All three teams will advance to the regional.

Warsaw was led by Robbie Finlinson, who finished second overall with a 77 in his first match as a member of the Tiger varsity squad all season long. Austin Craig was not far behind him, finishing fourth overall with a 78. Aiden Bowell wrapped up the Warsaw top three with a 79. Northfield’s Tyson Baer ended the day as the tournament’s medalist, finishing with a course-low 71.

The Tigers weren’t the only local team in attendance, as Wawasee (323, fourth place), Tippecanoe Valley (347, sixth), Manchester (379, eighth), Triton (409, ninth), Lakeland Christian (450, eleventh) and Whitko (460, twelfth) all competed as well. The Warriors missed out on the third regional qualifying spot by just four strokes.

Along with Warsaw advancing as a team, Wawasee’s Vaughn Dyson and Preston Scherer as well as Valley’s Greg Miller finished as the top three individuals of non-regional qualifying teams, punching their tickets to the next round of the state tournament as well.

Leaders for other area teams included Manchester’s Connor Trump with an 87, Triton’s Tucker Worsham and Landon Patrick each with a 98, Lakeland Christian’s Alex Cook and his 102 and Whitko’s Noah Burnworth with a 97.

Warsaw as well as the three area individuals will compete at the regional tournament across town at Stonehenge Golf Club Thursday morning at 8 a.m.
