Wendy Irene Bolinger Benzing, 78, Warsaw, died July 28, 2023.
She was born on Feb. 8, 1945, to Carl and Bernice Bolinger. She graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1963. Wendy worked for L.M. Berry & Co., Dr. James Bolin DOS and was a loving childcare provider for many years.
She married Norman Benzing on Nov. 1, 2005. Wendy and Norm were founding members of The RUWM Church in Warsaw and of World Mission 61, an organization supporting churches, schools, and orphanages in Haiti. One of the many RUWM fundraisers is selling the famous “Grandma Wendy’s Blueberry Cheesecake” at the Blueberry Festival each year to support a school in Desarmes, Haiti, which they, along with family and church members, built. The school currently has over 120 students who receive a free education thanks to The RUWM, World Mission 61 and their many sponsors. Wendy and Norm have been on numerous mission trips to Haiti, where they have changed the lives of many children.
Wendy is most known for her loving nature and heart for others. Everyone who knows Wendy knows her hugs, smiles and encouragement. And when it comes to her grandchildren, she is their biggest cheerleader, never missing a soccer game or a gymnastics meet. Although she will be greatly missed, her loving spirit will go on in the lives of her family and friends.
Wendy is survived by her husband, Norm; sons, Robert Brumfield, of Leesburg; and Ryan (Veronica) Helser, of Warsaw; sister, Carla (Robert) Bullock, of Durham, N.C.; cousin, Barbara Reeves, of Winamac; stepsons: David (Brenda) Benzing, Norman (Kim) Benzing Jr. and Michael (Tina) Benzing; grandchildren: Justin (Erin) Brumfield, Austin (Noelle) Brumfield, Coltin Brumfield, Brayden Helser, Elise Helser, Jacne՛ Helser and Loundia Helser. Wendy also has three great-granddaughters: Eleanor Brumfield, Emmalynn Lindsey and Adalynn Lindsey. Her extended family includes nieces, Jeana (David) Ellis, Toni (Dan) Willard and Kelly Ormsby; nephews: Monty (Jenny) Bolinger, Jeff (Mary) Bolinger, Robert (Anita) Bolinger as well as nine step-grandchildren and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Larry Bolinger and Ted Bolinger; sister-in-law, Sue Bolinger; niece, Cathy Ann Bolinger; and nephew, Ricky Lee Bolinger.
