BOURBON – Mary Beth Miner, age 97, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Beth was born June 1, 1926, to Earl Raymond Shinn and Mariam Bethel Fouts Shinn. She married Robert Blodgett in September of 1945. They had two children, Suzannah L. and Robert E. She later married James L. Miner on Sept. 14, 1951, and they had two children, Patti R. and J. Randal. She had seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Beth was a practical nurse at the McDonald Hospital during the post World War II years and retired to raise her children. She then worked at the Kosciusko County Courthouse in the auditor’s office for 25 years until retirement.
She was a drummer in her high school band and has had many offspring who followed in her footsteps. She took dance and singing lessons as a teenager and had a beautiful soprano voice. In later years she knitted, crocheted and was known for sewing Barbie doll clothes in her hometown of Etna Green. Running was also a great passion which she enjoyed with her children and grandchildren. Right before, and after her retirement, she was a genealogy buff and loved working on her computer, compiling a diary of her life. She loved keeping her mind sharp with crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She could still be seen in her 90s walking to the post office and down to the gas station to buy her beloved scratch offs. She was a very special lady with a sharp sense of humor and an unmatchable wit. Beth will be missed by her family, her two cats (Miss Kitty and Little Orphan Andy) and the town of Etna Green.
Beth was preceded in death by her husband, her two sons, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at the Etna Green United Methodist Church, 131 W. Broadway St., Etna Green, on July 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. The time for fellowship will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and the last hour will be filled with memories of this great lady from all who participate.
Thank you to all our friends and community for your support during this difficult time.
