LEESBURG – No one was injured after a fireworks show at Lake Tippecanoe was cut short due to fire Saturday.
The fireworks show started at 9:45 p.m. Saturday and fires on the barges for fireworks started at about 10 p.m., which the Tippecanoe Township-North Webster Fire responded to, according to Fire Chief Jeremy Likens.
Upon arrival to the scene, Liken said fireworks were going off and the containers holding the fireworks were burning. He said there were two separate fires.
Emergency vehicles parked at Tippy Dance Hall, and fire department launched the fire boat off the boat ramp there. Likens said the lake patrol did a great job in keeping people back during the fire.
Likens said there was quite a bit of damage to the top of the barges.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire department was on scene for about 30 to 45 minutes.
