Fresh off of an appearance in the state finals last winter, the Warsaw bowling team has turned in an even better campaign this year and will compete at the Indiana Bowling Centers Association High School State Finals at the Royal Pin Western in Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 11.

After finishing the regular season with a first place finish in the seven-team Michiana Central Conference, the Tigers jumped into sectional play without missing a beat. Warsaw advanced to the regional with a first place finish and was led by Justin Whybrew, who finished second overall individually with a score of 582 after three games. Logan Gareiss just missed out on a top-five finish, ending his day in sixth with a score of 552.

Competing in the regional at the Thunderbowl in Fort Wayne, the Tiger bowlers reached a milestone for the program by winning their first regional championship in school history. Warsaw scored 2282 points to narrowly beat out second place Bellmont by 28. In the singles competition, Nicholas Ransbottom earned a tenth place finish.

On the team’ final trip on their journey to state, Warsaw finished in fifth place in the semi-state tournament in Fort Wayne. With the top six teams advancing to Indianapolis, the Tigers beat out Penn and Bellmont to secure their spot in the top five with a team score of 2103. Warsaw was just 14 points shy of overtaking Alexandria for fourth.

The Times-Union wishes Warsaw bowling the best of luck ahead of this weekend’s state finals.
