WINONA LAKE — Rick Swaim will take another turn as the Winona Lake Town Council president.

At its meeting on Tuesday, the council chose Swaim for that role and made Heather James vice president.

Town attorney Adam Turner also swore in Swaim and Jim Lancaster, as they both were elected to another council term in the fall.

The council also heard it would have a special meeting at 5 p.m. Friday at Winona Lake Town Hall to approve financial claims for the town. It was unable to perform that action at Tuesday’s meeting as usual as Town Clerk-Treasurer Laurie Renier had one employee quit in December and is working through other staffing changes.

The council approved allowing Renier to move one person into another position and hire at least one new employee.

In other business, the council:

• Approved an agreement with Grace College where the school will pay Winona Lake $25,000 annually over the next three years for use of the Miller Sunset Pavilion and in turn get to use the facility for special events.

• Approved its regular yearly agreement with Wayne Township. The entity pays Winona Lake $25,000 for the use of parks and recreation activities by Wayne Township residents who frequent Winona Lake’s Limitless Park.

• Appointed Barry Andrew to the plan commission; Alex Hall and Al Disbro to the redevelopment commission; and Swaim, Disbro, Retha Hicks, Terry White and Mary Pat Wallen to the art commission.

• Heard from Town Manager Craig Allebach that people should check the Miller Sunset Pavilion’s Facebook page to see when different events will occur at its ice rink as well as when it will be closed for special events.

The council’s next regular meeting is 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at Town Hall.
