SILVER LAKE - At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council talked out a plan of getting trash and recycling bids from companies for the new year.

Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley will send a call for new bids in February, report the bids at the March meeting and the Council can decide on the bids in April. Trash bids will be accepted separately from recycling.

The Council approved an alcoholic beverage enabler's ordinance. This is the first updated ordinance of its kind since 1980.

Conley presented a $1,093 quote for Wi-Fi in the town meeting room but the Council is pursuing other options such as a Wi-Fi hotspot or a Wi-Fi extender.

The Council reviewed an agreement with Baker Tilly, which is now asking clients to sign a yearly contract. This contract is $10,000 more than previous annual agreements but includes more services, including quarterly reports and a comprehensive financial plan with five years worth of data.

In other business:

- Councilmembers Gloria Jean Weller, Nichole Taylor and Hugh Murfin continue in their current positions. Murfin remains Council president.

- Town Marshal Jason McGlennen said the police department's new computers are being installed in the cruisers. The computers can be taken to the county for software installation.

- Fire Chief John Conley was reappointed for 2023. The department had four runs in December: two medical assistants, one false alarm, and one car accident/fire. There were 115 runs total in 2022.

The Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 8.
