Local High School Sports Recaps For 2/11

Wawasee had a tremendous showing at the IHSAA state finals Saturday, securing a seventh place finish as a team.
Addison Beasley, Alexis Mishler, Hayden Neer, Julie Mishler and Kiah Farrington all brought home hardware for the Warriors, with Julie Mishler securing two individual third place titles while her sister Alexis won two individual fifth place finishes. Both individual podium finishes occurred in the 50 and 100-yard free race. Farrington, Beasley and the Mishler sisters teamed up for a third place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Neer, Farrington and the Mishler sisters also finished in sixth place in the Medley Relay.
Congratulations to Wawasee swimming on a fantastic season.
Wrestling
It was a great day for area wrestlers at the East Chicago Semi-State round of the IHSAA state tournament Saturday, with a handful of wrestlers punching their ticket to the state finals.
Those advancing to state are Wawasee’s Kaleb Salazar, Cameron Senter, Hunter Miller and Donvovan Blair as well as Tippecanoe Valley’s Bazle Owens. Best of luck to all athletes advancing to the state finals!
Boys Basketball
LaVille at Whitko
Whitko fought hard but was unable to pick up a win Saturday night, falling 61-58 to LaVille. The Wildcats are now 4-14 this season.
Despite the loss, it was a fantastic night for Whitko junior Kyler Krull. Krulll scored 32 points on 63% shooting to go with 10 rebounds and two steals. Riley Harman also had a nice night, scoring 15 points and adding seven boards
Whitko is back in action Friday on the road at Wabash.
Tippecanoe Valley at North Miami
Tippecanoe Valley extended its winning streak to eleven games in dominant fashion Friday night, defeating North Miami 86-39 on the road. The Vikings are now 16-3, 8-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Friday’s win paired with Manchester’s victory over Peru Friday night clinches at least a share of the conference title for Valley. Nolan Cumberland led the team with 19 points while Riley Shepherd added 15 and Stephen Akase added 10.
Valley has a huge matchup with 3A No. 1 NorthWood in Nappanee Tuesday.
Peru at Manchester
Manchester earned one of its most impressive wins of the season so far Friday night, defeating Peru 54-51 at home. The Squires are now 14-4 this winter, 6-1 in the TRC.
Manchester trailed for a majority of the game before using a big fourth quarter to put the team over the top. Ethan Hendrix scored 13 points, Tyler McLain added 12 while Gavin Betten scored eleven.
Manchester travels to Lakeland Christian Tuesday before finishing its conference schedule on Friday against Maconaquah and next Tuesday against Whitko. Wins in both of those games will clinch a share of the conference title for the Squires.
Wawasee at Goshen
Wawasee was unable to pick up a conference win Friday night, falling 60-45 on the road to Goshen. The Warriors are now 7-13 this season, 1-6 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Collin Ziebarth scored 12 points to lead Wawasee, followed closely by Maddux Everingham’s 10. Myles Everingham added nine.
The Warriors host Westview Tuesday evening.
Triton at LaVille
Triton fell short in its conference battle with LaVille Friday night, falling 51-35. The Trojans are now 10-8, 4-2 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Cole Shively had another great night, scoring 17 points to lead the way. Anthony Schuh added eight points and four rebounds.
Triton plays its next game Tuesday at Rochester.
