Kosciusko County Sheriff Jim Smith announced the news at the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Merit Board meeting on Thursday.
"She was a full-time dispatcher years ago," said Smith. "She's finishing out her time with her current employer and will be starting here in just a couple weeks."
Deb Carpenter had been the interim dispatch director, but left recently to take a job with the Kosciusko County Treasurer's Office.
The board also approved officially making Kevin Gelbaugh the jail commander, Mike Mulligan the patrol commander and Josh Spangle the investigations commander.
All three were previously announced as being interim in those positions. They will each have the title of lieutenant.
The board also officially approved making Doug Light public information officer, with him to have the title of sergeant. Light is to step down as student resource officer for Wawasee Community Schools. He’s being transitioned out of the role, but didn't say who his replacement will be.
The merit board also approved making Matt Holderman a sergeant, as with the other administrative changes that role was vacant.
In other business, the board:
• Heard from Mulligan there are around 14 applicants trying for three patrol positions the office is hiring for.
• Heard from Smith that the office is working to get new body cameras for all the jail officers.
• Heard from Smith that a new sign-in kiosk system would be implemented for all visitors to the secure portion of the jail.
• Heard from Kosciusko County Administrator Marsha McSherry that an additional antenna should be installed in the Kosciusko County Justice Building to help with radio communications in a portion of it.
• Heard from McSherry that a new fire alarm system should be fully installed in the justice building next week.
• Heard that two new officers who were hired, Brette Stamper and Dan Buell, are settling into their roles.
