SILVER LAKE — Silver Lake is joining several other towns in Kosciusko County working on seeking grant funding for electric vehicles.
At its year-end meeting on Wednesday, the Silver Lake Town Council gave Town Marshal Jason McGlennen permission to look into applying for funding through the state’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program for one police vehicle and one utility department vehicle.
McGlennen said he’s not sure on the exact amount he would ask for yet, but amounts rewarded in the program are expected to be in the $100,000 to $200,000 range.
Pierceton and Winona Lake are also trying to obtain funding for EVs.
In other business, the council:
• Approved granting Town Deputy Marshal Matt Wynn a raise as he’s completed his Indiana Police Academy training.
• Agreed to pay $6,000 to the Kosciusko Economic Development Corp. for its annual contract with the town. Council members did discuss possibly discontinuing the contract in the future if they deem KEDCO doesn’t provide sufficient service for the town.
• Approved paying $2,000 monthly to Baker Tilly financial consultants for their assistance with town projects, including looking at raising utility rates.
• Was sworn in for 2024 along with Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley by town attorney Austin Rovenstine.
The council’s next regular meeting is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 10, at Silver Lake Town Hall.
