Sylvia Louise Henderson, of Leesburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at the age of 85.
She was born on July 7, 1938, in Anderson, one of five children born to Evelyn Louise Edwards Hedrick and Arthur David Hedrick. Sylvia graduated from high school in 1956 from Middletown, and then pursued her nursing degree from Parkview School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. She received her registered nurse certification in 1959 and for the next several years she worked as a proud nurse providing care to many. Sylvia was a hard-working lady with a heart for service. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, was the assistant director of nursing for several years at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, and provided skilled nursing care at Greencroft in Goshen until her retirement.
On Sept. 24, 1960, she married Richard Keith Henderson, and they shared the next 63 years celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, family gatherings and raising their children. Sylvia had been a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana, for the past 35 years and called it home. She enjoyed living on the lake and spending countless sunny days boating and fishing. Sylvia could always be found reading a good book and more than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church on Barbee Lake where she also enjoyed time with her church family. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, sister and relished her role as grandma. She always had a never-ending amount of love to give and will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends.
She leaves behind her husband, Keith Henderson, Kuhn Lake; son, Greg (Kelley) Henderson, Warsaw; daughter, Lori (Keith) Lang, Warsaw; and three grandchildren: Melissa, Matthew and Megan Lang. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathy (Don) Wallace, Auburn; and Jeanne Coble, Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Cindy and David.
Sylvia’s life will be celebrated with a service at noon on Monday, Dec. 18 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Michael Opferman. A graveside service will follow at Miller’s Cemetery in Middletown. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon.
