Why Care? Really?

Editor, Times-Union:
Shame on you, Paul Fribley. Why should you care? Did you flunk history in high school?
Have you ever watched movies or documentaries about the Revolutionary War? The Civil War? World Wars I and II? Have you ever read any personal, first-hand accounts of prisoners of war? Of citizens of autocratic, fascist, communist, countries? Those citizens whose rights to vote have been taken away? Do you watch the news?
Did no one in your family history ever fight in any of the above-mentioned wars? What the hell do you think they fought for, died for? So you can sit back, throw your hands up and say you don’t care any more? Shameful.
Doing what is right and good is not always easy. Dangerous, frightful things have occurred in our country’s history before, but because there have always been folks who cared and continued to fight for good — who continued to vote — our country always came through stronger and on the side of goodness. Our country will never be perfect. There are way too many “egos” as you say. There always will be. There are also way too many quitters. There always will be.
But there are way more patriotic, appreciative, stubborn citizens who will never give up. They will always fight for what is right and true and the American way. They will even fight for you.
