A Republican caucus has been called for the Clay Township trustee as current Trustee Jacob Metzger resigned, effective Dec. 31.
Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chairman Mike Ragan announced the caucus will convene in the Claypool Lions Building at 6 p.m. Dec. 27.
Eligible members of the caucus, by statutory definition, are the Republican Precinct committee members who have served continuously from 30 days prior to the date of the commencement of the caucus.
The Clay Township trustee will be elected by secret ballot of the majority of members of the voting caucus to fill the vacancy in the office. Candidates must reside in Clay Township and be a Republican in good standing, Ragan said.
Declarations of candidacy are available at the Office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the commencement of the caucus.
Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.
Metzger was sworn in as the trustee Dec. 31 after unanimously being selected by a Republican caucus on Dec. 23 to replace Helen Brown, who had resigned effective Dec. 31. Metzger was the only candidate to file for the trustee position, but he did not attend the caucus because he was in Florida.
