SOUTH WHITLEY - The Board of Trustees of the South Whitley Community Public Library voted at its July meeting to hire Cody Abbott as its new director.
Abbott becomes the seventh director in the library’s 110-year history. Vicki Builta, the library’s current director, is retiring, according to a news release from the library.
Abbott is currently the circulation and systems manager at Wabash Carnegie Public Library, where he has worked for the past 6-1/2 years. He completed his Masters of Library Information Services in July and also holds a master’s in public administration.
“Cody has a solid background in libraries and is ready to bring his talents to South Whitley,” said David Warner, president of the board of trustees. “We believe his vision of library service matches well with the goals of our library. We’re happy to have him here.”
“I’m excited for the opportunity to come into the community and see how I can be of service,” said Abbott, adding one of his career goals is to work with the community and see how the library can help serve it. He said he’s also ready to step in and help drive current library initiatives forward and perhaps bring some new perspectives to projects.
Abbott and his wife, Abby, whom he met and works with at Wabash, have been married for four years. They have a cat, Amos, who is named after their favorite character in the book and television series “The Expanse.”
Abbott begins his tenure at SWCPL on Oct. 2.
