Rebecca A. Richard, 71, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023.
Becky was born in Elkhart, to Aaron A. and Dorothy M. McCuen Forsythe. She grew up in Nappanee and graduated from NorthWood High School with the class of 1970. She then went on to graduate with a bachelor’s in elementary education from Ball State University in 1974.
Through mutual friends, Becky met Daniel W. Richard. After some time, she would receive a “Congratulations!” card from Dan on him being her boyfriend. This fun, silly love would continue and the two would become one on May 24, 1975, in St. Francis of Assisi Chapel in Muncie.
They would make Warsaw their home in 1976 and welcome two daughters, Erin and Kelly. Becky worked for the Kosciusko County Auditor’s Office and off and on in the county government for 30 years.
Becky was kind, loving, had a quick wit and was gentle. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye! She was an avid reader, loved Jeopardy, crossword puzzles and was a trivia master. She enjoyed leaving her husband, Dan, nearly every Saturday to play bingo with her sister Karen.
She was a strong believer in the Lord and grew up in the Nappanee United Methodist Church. Becky was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Kosciusko Republican Women’s Club.
Becky is dearly missed by her husband of 48 years, Dan, of Warsaw; and their daughters, Erin (Agustin Lopez) Richard, of Indianapolis; and Kelly (David) Rodriguez, of Yorktown; granddaughters, Harper and Lily: and her sisters, Mary (Donald) Wilbur, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; Karen Tobias, of Nappanee; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David; and brother-in-law, Mike Tobias.
A celebration of Becky’s life will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 4-7 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw.
Family burial in the Oakwood Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to be made to Samaritan’s Purse www.samaritanspurse.org
Condolences may be sent to the family through the website: www.mchattonsadlerfuneralchapels.com.
