Local High School Sports Recaps For Thursday, August 24

Volleyball
Warsaw at Penn

Warsaw volleyball was able to snap a three-game skid in a big way Thursday night, defeating Penn 3-1 (25-16, 25-0, 22-25, 25-22). It’s the second straight win for the Lady Tigers over Penn going back to last year’s sectional semifinal. Warsaw is now 3-5 this fall.
Melaina Hawblitzel led the team with 15 kills. Not far behind was Maggie Hollon, who had 14 to go with a team-high five aces and four block assists. Ellie Hepler added 21 digs. Kenzie Chivington had 39 assists while Leah Henderson added six block assists.
Warsaw travels to Plymouth this weekend for the Powerball Tournament.
Bethany Christian at Wawasee
Wawasee earned its third win in a row in four sets Thursday night, defeating Bethany Christian 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-15) at home. The Lady Warriors are now 3-2 this season and will look to extend their winning streak to four Tuesday night at home against Manchester.
Northfield at Tippecanoe Valley
A seven-game winning streak for Tippecanoe Valley was snapped Thursday night, as the Lady Vikings fell 3-1 (19-25, 13-25, 25-17, 23-25) at home to Northfield. Tippecanoe Valley is now 8-2 this season. The Lady Vikings play their next game Saturday at the Plymouth Powerball Tournament.
Manchester at North Miami
Manchester picked up another conference win Thursday evening, defeating North Miami 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-18, 26-24) to improve to 3-1 this season, 2-0 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Olivia Davis led the team in kills with 13. Marley Bellinger was unstoppable serving the ball, racking up six aces. Paxton Baker had 20 digs while Peyton Ream added 28 assists.
The Lady Squires will compete in the Prairie Heights Invitational on Saturday.
MCAC at Lakeland Christian
Lakeland Christian had to work hard but ended up walking away with a 3-2 (25-14, 14-25, 25-21, 25-27, 15-13) victory over the MCAC Wildcats at home. The Lady Cougars are now 2-5 this season.
Claire Schindel had 10 kills to lead her team. Addisyn Daley had 30 digs while Leah Forshtay had 23 assists. Lani Calizo had two aces.
Lakeland Christian plays its next game Thursday night at home against Granger Christian.
