Scare Tactics

Editor, Times-Union:
Soon after Donald Trump received his first federal indictment, he addressed his clueless fans with the words, “In the end, they’re not coming after me. They’re coming after you…..” Mr. Trump, I beg to differ. “They” are definitely not coming after “me.” However, someone is coming after me —your MAGA minions. They are coming after me….
— if I am gay, bi-, trans, queer or any combination thereof
— if I am a student who chooses to read any and all current or classic literature like Shakespeare, or if I want to learn true historical facts about my country … the good, the bad, and the ugly so that I can become an informed adult who does not repeat the bad and the ugly
— if I am female and wish to maintain absolute control over my own body
— if I am a black, brown, poor, old, or handicapped voter who wishes to exercise that right without fear or harassment or undue restrictions
— if I am on Medicare or Medicaid
— if I am not a Christian
— if I am a dedicated female in the U.S. military
— if I support democracy in every way both here and abroad
— if I do not believe you or your followers
— if I am a judge or attorney, holding you and your pals accountable for any and all transgressions
— if I am an election poll worker simply doing my job
— if I am a juror whose name and address you publish as a subtle warning to watch my back
— if I believe in science and pay attention to its discoveries and warnings
— if I publicly march or protest in order to be seen and heard
Bottom line, Mr. Trump, it is your “they” who are coming after “me”. They are coming verbally, psychologically, and, worst of all, violently after “me.” But listen up, Mr. Trump, your scare tactics are not only pathetic; they are weak, unfounded, and evil. There is strength in truth and in numbers, Mr. Trump, and wow, do we have numbers! We are not loud. We are not crude or crass. We do not wear hats, fly flags, or rail at rallies. We are quiet, determined, steadfast, and honest. We are dedicated to the preservation of our Democracy/Republic and of the rights of all people as put forth in our Constitution and its Bill of Rights. We are coming for you and your sycophants, Mr Trump. We cannot be stopped; we are voters!
