Local High School Sports Recaps For Monday, August 21

Volleyball
Lakeland at Wawasee

Wawasee volleyball picked up its first win of the 2023 season on Monday night, defeating Lakeland 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-15) at home. The Lady Warriors are now 1-2 this season and will look to earn another win Thursday night at home against Bethany Christian.
Goshen at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley continued a red-hot start to its season with another win Monday night, this time against Goshen. The 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23) win is Valley’s fifth in a row this fall. The Lady Vikings are now 7-1 and will try to make it six wins in a row Thursday night at home against Northfield.
Triton at Rochester
Triton volleyball picked up another win on the early season Monday night, defeating Rochester 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-10) on the road. The Lady Trojans are now 2-1 this season.
Addyson Viers led the team in kills once again with 14. Viers also led Triton in aces with fur. Hannah Snyder once again had the most assists in the match, finishing with 22. Sierra Hawley had 13 digs.
Triton’s next match comes Thursday night in the form of a home game against Argos.
Boys Soccer
Norwell at Manchester

Manchester soccer returned to its winning ways Monday evening, picking up a massive 7-2 victory over Norwell at home. The Squires are now 2-1 this fall.
It was a huge day for Tyler McLain. The striker played a part in all seven goals scored by Manchester, putting five into the back of the net himself and assisting on the other two. Midfielder Nathaniel Miller scored those other two and assisted on four of McLain’s. Evan McLaughlin had stopped nine shots in net.
The Squires will look to pick up another win on Thursday, when the team faces off with Three Rivers Conference opponent Wabash.
Girls Soccer
Tippecanoe Valley at NorthWood

Tippecanoe Valley girls soccer is still searching for its first win of the season after suffering a 12-0 loss to NorthWood Monday night. The Lady Vikings are now 0-3 and will have another chance to pick up that first victory Thursday at home against North Miami.
Girls Golf
Goshen at Warsaw

It was a banner day for the Warsaw girls golf team as the ladies took on Northern Lakes Conference opponent Goshen at Stonehenge Golf Course. The Lady Tigers dominated to the tune of a 157-219 victory, the team’s best nine-hole round this fall.
Olivia Robinson-Gay led the charge once again, scoring a 36. Abigail Davis had her best round of the season, shooting a 39. Abbey Peterson was not far behind with a 40 while Claire Reust rounded out the scoring with a 42.
Warsaw’s next match is scheduled for Thursday against Northridge and Plymouth.

222 Majority & Senate 55 Rule
Editor, Times-Union: Whatever color the House of Representatives shift to in 2026 and future elections afterwards whether a red Republican majority or a blue Democratic majority or even a purple centrist majority. It should always command a 222 or higher majority (51.0%+ rule) in order to control that body of Congress instead of the current 218- simple majority rule. Any governing party or coalition in this chamber should have a clear solid majority in order to lead instead of a precarious edge.
