Roland J. ‘Rolly’ McFadden

MENTONE – Roland J. “Rolly” McFadden, 63, of rural Claypool, passed after a farming accident on Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at his residence.
Roland was born on July 3, 1960, in Rochester, to the late Dr. Orville L. and Vanoma I. “Judy” Sprague McFadden. He was married on Sept. 17, 1988, at the farm to Pamela S. Hampshire, who survives.
Roland was a 1978 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School. He was a farmer and a handyman. He raised beef cattle, hogs and made lots of hay. In earlier years, he worked for Dick Webb and farmed for McSherry Farms. He had most recently been working as commercial maintenance manager for Cardinal Services of Warsaw, where he had worked for 24 years.
He served the community for over 35 years at the Burket Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a former assistant fire chief. He also served as a past Seward Township trustee. Roland was a longtime member of the Mentone Masonic Lodge #576, where he was past Master, as well as the Scottish Rite and the Mizpah Shrine. He was a former member of the Talma Lions Club. Roland was a lifetime member of the NRA, and Scoutmaster for over 10 years. He enjoyed coaching at the Mentone Youth League, especially T-ball. His tractor of choice was International and he enjoyed riding his yellow Harley Davidson Road King. Most of all, his family was his life.
He is survived by his wife, Pam McFadden, of Claypool; children: Beth and husband Chris Miller, of Fulton; Nathan and wife Erica McFadden, of Warsaw; and Devin and wife Haley McFadden, of Warsaw; grandchildren: Taylor, Caitlynn, Sammie, Jonathon, RJ and Ryker; great-granddaughter, Rosalee; brother, James and wife Debra McFadden, of Mentone; sisters, Deneice Childers, of Florida; and Karen and husband Roy Dishong, of Huntington; and nieces: Rebekah, Megan and Jenna.
Roland was preceded by his parents; a brother, Dean McFadden (1983); brothers-in-law, Keith Childers and Tony Hampshire, of Louisiana (2023).
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23 at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. The interment will take place in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone. Visitation hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22 at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with a fireman’s service at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Echoes of the Past, Fulton County Animal Center or the Burket Volunteer Fire Department.
