Volleyball
Tippecanoe Valley at John Glenn Tournament
It was a very successful weekend for the Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team, as the Lady Vikings went undefeated to take first place in the John Glenn Tournament. Tippy Valley is now 5-1 this fall.
Valley defeated LaVille, North Judson and host school John Glenn, all in straight sets, to take home the gold. The Lady Vikings will try to extend their winning streak Monday night at home against Goshen.
Warsaw at Carmel Round Robin
Warsaw volleyball battled hard but was unable to come away with a win at the Carmel Round Robin Saturday morning, falling 3-2 (25-19, 12-25, 22-25, 25-22, 14-16) to Carmel and 3-0 (18-25, 12-25, 22-25) to reigning 3A state champion Providence. The Lady Tigers are now 2-4 this season.
Maggie Hollon had 18 kills on the day, while Melaina Hawblitzel had 17. Hawblitzel also had four aces. Ellie Hepler had 36 digs across two games.
Warsaw will look to snap the short skid with a home game Monday night against Homestead.
Football
Manchester at North Miami
Manchester began the Eddie Fields era with a season-opening victory on the road at North Miami Friday night, winning 34-24. The Squires have now won three of their last four season openers.
Manchester started the game quickly and never looked back, going up 14-0 after the first quarter and taking a 21-8 lead into halftime. After a solid third quarter from the home team, the Squires lead shrunk to three heading into the final quarter. Fields’ team would score the only points in the fourth, holding on for victory.
Manchester will try to make it two wins in a row Friday night at Bluffton.
Whitko at Prairie Heights
Whitko football earned a huge win Friday night, defeating Prairie Heights 20-0 on the road. It’s the Wildcat’s first victory since Sep. 17, 2021 and the first win for head coach Brad Sprunger.
Kaden Long ran for 114 yards on seven carries, scoring a touchdown in the process. Jack Hill had 56 yards rushing and two scores. Riley Harman caught two passes for 40 yards. Breyden Kirkdorffer had a massive day on defense, reaching the quarterback twice for two sacks.
Whitko remains on the road next week as it tries to secure win number two against Three Rivers Conference opponent Peru.
South Central at Triton
Triton began its season with a dominant performance at home Friday night, defeating South Central 30-6 at home. It’s the first win for Zach Whittaker as Triton head coach.
The Trojans did most of their damage in the first half, taking a 27-6 lead at halftime. Triton plays its first road game Friday night at LaVille.
Boys Soccer
Manchester at NorthWood
Manchester boys soccer suffered its first loss of the season Saturday morning, falling 2-1 to NorthWood on the road. The Squires are now 1-1 this season.
Manchester struck first, scoring the first goal of the game and taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. However, the home side would not back down, scoring both goals in the second half to come away with the victory.
The Squires will look to get back in the win column Monday evening when the team hosts Norwell.
Bethany Christian at Lakeland Christian
Lakeland Christian is still searching for its first win this season after falling 5-0 to Bethany Christian Saturday. The Cougars are now 0-2 this season.
Lakeland Christian was only able to manage one shot on goal across the 80 minutes. Braden Weirick had seven saves in net for the Cougars.
Lakeland Christian plays its next game Tuesday at home against Lakewood Park Christian.
Girls Soccer
Warsaw at St. Joseph Invite
Warsaw girls soccer is still searching for its first win of the season after an 0-1-1 showing at the St Joseph Invite on Saturday. The Lady Tigers tied St. Joseph 2-2 before losing 2-0 to Hamilton Southeastern. Warsaw is now 0-2-1, and will look to pick up its first win against Northern Lakes Conference opponent Plymouth on Tuesday.
Wawasee at Westview
It was a tough day for Wawasee girls soccer on Saturday, as the Lady Warriors fell 9-0 to Westview. Wawasee is now 1-2 this fall and will look to pick up a win Tuesday against fellow Kosciusko County rival Manchester on Tuesday.
