As a demonstration of faith, members of at least 11 churches are reading the Bible aloud at Central Park Plaza, Warsaw, starting Monday.
The entire Bible will be read aloud from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. starting Monday, going through Aug. 26.
On Monday, the books of Genesis through Joshua will be read. On Tuesday, Joshua through 2 Chronicles will be read. On Wednesday, Ezra through Jeremiah will be read. On Thursday, Jeremiah through Mark will be read. On Friday, it is planned Mark through Revelation will be read. If all the reading is not finished Friday night, Aug. 26 will be used as needed, according to the event website butoneveryword.com.
Organizer Ty Legan said the idea came after he was in a personal Bible study and he read Deuteronomy 31, which has Moses telling the Israelites to read the law at the end of every seven years. Legan saw a poll that said 16% of American read the Bible. After seeing a 2020 Gallup poll showing a decline in church attendance, Legan said his thought was 16% was high for people who read the Bible.
Bruce Shown, member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church and participant in the event, said volunteers from the 11 churches are reading the Bible. They are not providing any commentary or anything else.
Some of the churches that have people reading include Mission Point, Silver Creek Church of God and Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church. As of Thursday, there are at least 36 people reading during the event.
Legan said, as of Friday, there are about two hours left where people can volunteer to read, which is toward the end of the event.
Shown said everyone is welcome to attend the reading. There will be a tent set up so reading can take place rain or shine.
Legan said people are able to realize the breathtaking beauty and incalculable worth of Jesus Christ during the event.
