Local High School Sports Recaps For Wednesday, August 16

Volleyball
Tippecanoe Valley at Plymouth

Tippecanoe Valley battled hard on Wednesday evening, almost coming away with a comeback victory in a 3-2 loss to Plymouth. The Lady Vikings are now 2-1 this season.
Valley dropped the first two sets 26-28, 25-27 before winning the next two 25-19, 25-13 to force a winner-take-all fifth game. The comeback fell just short, as the Lady Pilgrims took the fifth set 15-10 to secure the match.
Valley will return to action Saturday at the John Glenn tournament.
Triton at Mishawaka
After picking up a season opening win on Monday, the Triton volleyball team suffered its first loss on Wednesday, falling 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 10-25, 18-25) to Mishawaka. The Lady Trojans are now 1-1 this fall.
Addyson Viers led the team in kills with 13. Avery Viers had seven blocks to pace her side. Hannah Snyder finished with a team-high in both assists with 22 and digs with 18.
Triton remains on the road for its next game, a contest at Rochester on Monday.
Girls Soccer
West Noble at Wawasee

Wawasee girls soccer earned its first win of the season in dominant fashion Wednesday evening, defeating West Noble 6-1 at home. The Lady Warriors are now 1-1 this fall.
It was a huge day on the pitch for Molly Beer, who finished her evening with two goals and three assists. Morgan Reel also added two goals and an assist while Mikilah Wiggs also scored. Natalie Katzer had five saves in goal.
Wawasee plays its next game Saturday on the road against Westview.
Mississinewa at Manchester
Manchester girls soccer picked up its first victory of the season at home Wednesday night, shutting out Mississinewa in a 3-0 win. The Lady Squires are now 1-1 this season.
Campbell Bolinger scored two goals to lead the way to victory, while Hanna Stout also added a goal. Grace Smith had a rather uneventful day in net, stopping the only shot she faced in 80 minutes of play.
Manchester will look to make it two wins in a row Tuesday at Wawasee.
Girls Golf
Warsaw at Huntington North

The Warsaw girls golf team had a different look on Wednesday evening, but it didn’t stop the team from picking up a 202-220 victory over Huntington North.
The Lady Tigers’ top four players did not compete in the match, instead staying back and practicing their short game. Macy Carlile led her team with a 44. Not far behind was Lucy Ray with a 45. Mia Jones finished third on the team with a 57.
Warsaw hosts the Warsaw Invite on Saturday.
Boys Tennis
Warsaw at Huntington North

Warsaw boys tennis opened up its season with a close road loss to Huntington North Wednesday evening, falling 3-2. The Tigers begin the season with an 0-1 record.
No. 3 singles player, freshman Henry Norton, looked impressive in his match, winning 7-5, 6-1 in straight sets to begin his high school career with a win. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Caleb and Luke Smith picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Warsaw will look to pick up its first win next Thursday against Mishawaka.
Maconaquah at Whitko
Whitko earned its first win of the season Wednesday evening, defeating Maconaquah 3-2 at home. The Wildcats are now 1-1 this season.
No. 1 singles competitor Keaton Cornell won 6-1, 6-3. No. 2 singles player Reid Deneve was dominant in his win, taking his match 6-2, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Aiden Baldridge and Isaac Long earned a 6-4, 6-3 win to clinch the match for Whitko.
The Wildcats will look to make it two wins in a row Monday evening at Columbia City.

222 Majority & Senate 55 Rule
Editor, Times-Union: Whatever color the House of Representatives shift to in 2026 and future elections afterwards whether a red Republican majority or a blue Democratic majority or even a purple centrist majority. It should always command a 222 or higher majority (51.0%+ rule) in order to control that body of Congress instead of the current 218- simple majority rule. Any governing party or coalition in this chamber should have a clear solid majority in order to lead instead of a precarious edge.
