Fred O. Godshalk, of Warsaw, passed away at 6:39 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital of Warsaw at the age of 81.
Fred was born on the 4th of July 1942, in Goshen, to Elizabeth Louise Hoffer Godshalk and Ralph Simon Godshalk. He was a 1960 graduate of Syracuse High School and that same year he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served until his honorable discharge at the rank of sergeant.
He met a wonderful lady by the name of Janet Ann Morrison. They were married on March 30, 1974. They shared the good and the challenging parts of their lives during the 49 years they were blessed with. Fred took care of his family and was a hard-working and reliable long-time employee at R.R. Donnelley & Sons (now LSC Printing Solutions) in Warsaw. He retired at the age of 55 in 1997 as a layout journeyman.
Fred always kept active and enjoyed his spending time with his fellow brothers as a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse. He enjoyed many years bowling and was a member of the Warsaw Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He equally enjoyed being outdoors, spending many relaxing hours fishing and golfing with his buddies when he made it out to Myrtle Beach, Fla. A good trip for Fred was being able to travel to Pennsylvania to visit his lifelong dear friends that were members of his wedding party years ago. Fred loved the simple pleasures of life and was a devoted husband, father, dearly loved his grandchildren and was a friend to many.
He leaves behind his wife, Janet Godshalk, Warsaw; two sons, Brent (Lauri) Godshalk, Indianapolis; Jay (Jennifer) Godshalk, Warsaw; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Jane Grady, North Webster. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Richard O. Morrison, on Sept. 4, 2001; mother-in-law, Delores M. Morrison, on Aug. 4, 2023; and his brother, Mark Godshalk.
Fried’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at noon on Friday, Aug. 18 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Wanda Carter. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw with military rites conducted by members of the American Legion Post 223 of Syracuse and active-duty members of the Army Honor Guard. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon.
