SIDNEY — The Sidney Town Council approved a new head of maintenance, Chris Bradford, on Monday.
After one of the two bidders withdrew, Bradford was the only remaining candidate for the job. With an agreement of $5,000 per year, the council approved making Bradford an offer to step into the role of maintenance head, which he accepted.
"I look forward to helping my community and see to it being cleaned up," Bradford said.
This role involves mowing, trimming back brush from the alley, painting curbs and other miscellaneous tasks.
Another matter of business was covered by Brandon Allen, vice chair of the Democratic Party and Sidney Town Council member. Allen explained the Democratic Convention is taking place at 1 p.m. Saturday and explained its meaning to the residents in attendance.
"There are currently four democratic candidates running for town council and this vote will eliminate one, leaving three democratic candidates for the election in November," said Allen. "To vote in this convention you must have voted in the last two primaries and voted Democrat in at least one of them."
Allen also said, because of their need for an election, the town of Sidney will be required to help contribute to the overall cost for the county's election process. This is estimated to be anywhere from $2,500 to $7,000, according to Allen.
The next meeting will be Sept. 11.
