SILVER LAKE - At Wednesday night's meeting, the Silver Lake Town Council agreed on wage increases for town employees, including a $2-per-hour raise for the town marshal and utilities superintendent.
Council President Hugh Murfin said raises were given by position and not across the board by percentage so the gap between higher- and lower-income employees would not continue to grow.
Fire Chief John Conley presented photos and specifications on a 2005 Spartan rescue truck listed for sale at $259,000 with 19,209 miles.
The department would like $55,000 from the town of Silver Lake, combined with a $65,000 contribution from the township, to make a $120,000 offer on the truck. This truck does not have a compressed air foam system, which would need to be purchased separately for around $10,000.
The council approved the $55,000 contribution, provided the offer is accepted.
In other business:
• The council approved a resolution for ADA and Title VI plans.
• Murfin said meetings are set with architects to plan a community center building.
• The council approved a façade grant application for Whetstone Woodenware to replace doors and windows.
• The fire department had eight runs last month: three mutual aid assists, three medical assists, one accident and one downed pole.
• There was a claims docket of $127,753.17.
The council will next meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 13.
