Warsaw School Board Hears About Need For Bus Drivers

Warsaw Community Schools is still in need of bus drivers.
During the school board meeting Tuesday, Sheila Howe, director of human resources, said WCS is doing well in regards to certified staff.
However, even after the school board approves new hirings at their regular meeting on Monday, she said they still need paraprofessionals in the classrooms and bus drivers.
Chief Financial Officer April Fitterling said WCS has a sign-on bonus for new bus drivers of $2,000 that is structured over two years. There is also a referal bonus for any school employee that refers a new bus driver.
In previous discussions, it was stated the need for bus drivers has affected routing and extracurricular transportation.
In other business, the board:
• Was presented with a memorandum of understanding with Warsaw Community Church for WCS to use their facility in the case of emergency.
Tracy Howell, assistant superintendent of secondary education, said the MOU was for the board’s consideration.
• Learned staff’s first day back is today and student’s first day of school is Friday.
• Was presented with the teacher appreciation grant policy.
Howe said it has not changed, but has to presented to the board on an annual basis. The board will approve it Monday.
• Learned work on Jefferson Elementary School’s new roof will be completed today.
