SOUTH WHITLEY - Teresa Carrano is a Republican Party candidate for South Whitley Town Council.
She lives on North Line Street in the northwest precinct of Cleveland Township, according to a news release Carrano provided.
A former journalist, Carrano was editor of the Tribune-News from 2008 to 2021 and an associate editor of the Times-Union in Warsaw for 20 years. Now she is administrative assistant to the Whitko Community Schools’ superintendent and school board secretary.
“Having attended town council meetings for many, many years, I’m familiar with the town’s current projects, policies and understand its operations,” she said. “As a reporter, I wrote about government meetings, and to do that you must know the system. I’ve interviewed hundreds of people and wrote their stories, and to do that you must listen and be able to convey their concerns.”
Carrano co-organized the townwide garage sale for 13 years.
She served on the South Whitley Park Board for eight years, helping raise $250,000 for new playground equipment through grant writing and fundraising. She was park board secretary for five years and president for three years.
Currently, she is a member of the South Whitley Redevelopment Commission where she holds the office of secretary and serves on the facade grant committee.
“As a town council member, I’ll need zero orientation,” she said. “I know how to read a financial report and I understand the budgeting process. I’m detail-oriented and persistent and I help people reach common goals.
“What I bring to the council is a complete understanding of government procedures, the ability to hear all sides of the story, and I’ll make fair decisions in alignment with standard operating procedures and town and county regulations.”
