The Salvation Army is helping Kosciusko County students get ready for school in two different ways.
First, The Salvation Army is holding its annual “Back To School” drive to help families in need through Aug. 14.
“We are seeing a growing amount of parents and grandparents who are raising children requesting assistance,” according to Envoy Ken Locke, administrator.
Containers will be available to collect supplies at both entrances of Walmart Supercenter, 501 Walton Blvd., Warsaw.
The Salvation Army would also welcome canned and dry goods to help with the increasing demand in their Choice Pantry, according to a news release.
“This is an expensive time of the year for families so any help we can provide is greatly appreciated,” Ken said.
The containers will be at Walmart until Aug. 14 or can be dropped off at The Salvation Army, 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw.
The second way The Salvation Army is helping area students is The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary provided a grant for 200 K-12 students in Kosciusko County to have shoes for school.Vouchers were recently distributed to families in need to get new shoes, socks and other items in cooperation with Shoe Sensation, 2884 Frontage Road, Warsaw, according to a release.
“This outreach has been going on for many years,” according to Envoy Sina Locke, administrator. “Requests are still coming in so we welcome any further donations for this project.”
With growing costs, low-income families struggle to ensure their children have everything they need for the new school year. Shoes are one of the expensive items and everyone has been very grateful for the help, according to Sina.
Donations may be sent to The Salvation Army, 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw, IN 46580-3003 to help more families. Place “Shoes” in the memo line.
