Lakeland Christian Hires Calizo As Girls Basketball Coach

Former head coach Hannah Schloemer stepped down after last season, citing a new baby in her family as well as job responsibilities.
Craig Calizo brings 24 years of basketball coaching experience at various levels. He was the Head Boys’ Basketball coach at Friendship Christian Schools (Ewa, Hawaii) for 21 years. He was also the Head Girls’ Basketball coach for three seasons during his time at FCS. In addition, he spent three years at the school training and coaching 4 th -8 th graders, who were highly competitive in the Lutheran School Sports League.
After moving to the Warsaw area in 2017, Calizo’s most recent efforts have been displayed over the past three years in his investment into the middle school basketball programs at LCA. He has coached both the Boys’ and Girls’ Junior High teams. Craig led the Junior High Girls’ team to a combined record of 31 wins and three losses over the past two seasons. Coach Calizo has served full-time for four years on the faculty at LCA, teaching Social Studies and Bible.
Craig shared his thoughts on the position: “I have a deep desire to see student athletes know Christ and build character that glorifies God through training and achievement. It has been my privilege to serve with LCA over the past four years in the classroom and athletic program. I am now excited to lead the Girls Basketball program by cultivating growth and preparing them for future success.”
LCA athletic director, Tim Yocum added, “Coach Calizo brings a deep relationship with Christ and a love
for students. His knowledge and experience with the game of basketball and rapport with the student
athletes will bring a much-needed infusion of energy into our program.”
