Local High School Sports Recaps For 4/21

Tippecanoe Valley at NorthWood
Tippecanoe Valley enjoyed its trip to the new NorthWood baseball facility, defeating the Panthers 14-7 on the road. The Vikings are now 3-3 this season.
Tippy Valley was led by some great days at the plate from Markus Bernicky and Annikan Pettit. Bernicky went 3-4, finishing his night a home run shy of the cycle to go with four RBIs. Pettit went 3-3 and hit his first career triple to go with two runs driven in.
The Vikings face off against DeKalb in a doubleheader Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m.
Softball
Triton at Manchester
Manchester was able to snap a long losing streak Thursday night with a 9-4 victory over Triton. The Lady Squires improve to 2-8-1 this season while the Lady Trojans are still searching for their first win, sitting at 0-9.
Molly Schannep, Izzy Renz and Savannah Evans all had two RBIs for Manchester, with Evans tying for the team lead with three hits, including one for extra bases. Schannep struck out nine in seven innings of work. Lena Doll had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Triton offense.
The Lady Squires host Columbia City for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Saturday while Triton faces off with LaVille Monday evening at 5 p.m.
Tennis
Warsaw at Fairfield
Warsaw was unable to make it two wins in a row Thursday night, as the team fell 4-1 on the road to Fairfield. The Lady Tigers are now 1-3 this season.
The lone Warsaw win came in the No. 2 doubles contest, with Claire Reichenbach and Lucy Wray picking up a 6-4, 7-5 victory. No. 1 doubles team Avery Landwerlen and Clara Porter battled hard in their match before eventually coming up just short in a 6-4, 5-7, 3-6 loss.
The Lady Tigers are back in action Monday evening at home against Carroll.
Whitko at Tippecanoe Valley
Whitko was able to win its second match in as many days Thursday night, defeating Tippecanoe Valley 4-1 on the road.
Whitko’s No. 2 singles competitor Anna Arter and No. 3 singles player Jayda Gregory each earned straight set wins for the Lady ‘Cats. Valley’s lone victory came in the No. 1 doubles match, with Lily Ault and Ella Sandbakken winning 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
Whitko plays at Columbia City Monday evening while the Lady Vikings travel to Peru Tuesday night.
Track and Field
Wabash at Whitko
Whitko had some strong showings in its home meet against Wabash Thursday evening, with the boys losing 92-31 and the girls winning 65-50. The Lady ‘Cats are now 5-0 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Trevor Freel went 4-4 in his events, winning the long jump, high jump 400-meter dash and 4x400 meter relay. Trey Herrera placed second in discus and third in shot put. On the girls side, Gwen Howard continues to break Whitko records, as the sophomore set a new school record with her outdoor shot put throw of 44’11.75”. Emerson Harper broke the school long jump record with a jump of 17’7.5”. Harper and Howard each won all four events they competed in.
