PTK Hosts Game Night For Big Brothers Big Sisters
By Staff Report-
Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two-year colleges. There are over 20 chapters in Indiana. PTK follows four main hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. All projects and chapter functions must fit into one or more of these categories. Membership is on the basis of academic achievement.
Beta Zeta Kappa Chapter has about 10 active members. Their officers are President Avary Metzger, Vice President Génesis Widick and Secretary Keely Roe. Their advisors are Lori Roe and Brenda Blair. Other active members include John Spangle and Caleb Rivich.
PTK International has two projects that each chapter should complete: the College Project and the Honors in Action project. The College Project is created and carried out by chapter members to benefit the culture and strength of their campus. The Honors In Action project follows a specific research theme. The theme this year is “The Art and Science of Play.”
The BZK Chapter is researching the impact that play has on stress levels of students and young people. They are hosting game nights and other opportunities for students and friends to decrease stress levels. Their partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters follows this project. They are serving the community while researching a scholastic topic and engaging in fellowship with the community.
“We are so thankful for community partners like PTK who step up to support our mission. Our Bigs and littles had so much fun getting together to just play together,” said Community Development Director Tammy Smith.
If you would like to host a match activity to support Big Brothers Big Sisters, contact Smith at 574-306-2178 or visit their website for volunteer opportunities www.bbbsnei.org.
The Beta Zeta Kappa Chapter will host a Panda Express fundraiser at the end of April. Contact Advisor Lori Roe at [email protected] for more information or to support the chapter.
