Local High School Sports Recaps For 4/14

Manchester at Eastern
Manchester dropped its fourth straight game Wednesday night, falling 6-2 on the road at Eastern. The Squires are now 1-4 this spring.
Manchester was able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first but was unable to score for the remainder of the contest. Ethan Hendrix had two hits for the Squires, including a triple, while Gavin Martin added an RBI. Evan Martynowicz struck out nine in six innings of work.
Manchester travels to Concord Saturday for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Softball
Fort Wayne Carroll at Warsaw
Warsaw softball suffered a tough loss at the hands of Fort Wayne Carroll Wednesday evening, falling 23-1 in five innings. The Lady Tigers are 0-2 to begin the season.
Carroll was able to score 15 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Warsaw’s lone run came in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Adelynn Williams.
The Lady Tigers host South Bend Riley Friday night.
Manchester at Churubusco
Manchester dropped a tough road game to Churubusco Wednesday night, falling 11-4. The Lady Squires are now 1-3 on the year.
All four of Manchester’s runs were driven in by Hadley West, who had a double and a sacrifice fly in the game. West also added two stolen bases.
The Lady Squires host Wawasee on Friday night at 5 p.m.
Whitko at West Noble
Whitko came up short in a back-and-forth affair Wednesday night, falling 13-9 on the road to West Noble. The Lady ‘Cats are now 0-2 this spring.
It was a three-RBI night for Brooklyn Cooley, who hit a double in the game. Five different Whitko players had two hits in the game, with Madison Cripe and Adriyanna Phillips leading the way with a double and RBI each.
Whitko plays its next game Wednesday at Rochester. First pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
Tennis
Warsaw at Penn
Warsaw fell short in its opening match of the season, falling 5-0 at Penn.
The No. 2 doubles pairing of Claire Reichenbach and Lucy Wray fought hard but ultimately ended up falling 6-1, 7-5 in their match. No. 2 singles player Abby Nicholas fell 6-4, 6-1 in her contest.
Warsaw hosts the Tiger Tournament Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m.
Tippecanoe Valley at Triton
Tippecanoe Valley and Triton engaged in a razor-thin match Wednesday afternoon, with the Lady Vikings coming out on top with a 3-2 victory.
The Lady Trojans took two of the three singles matches, with No. 1 and No. 3 singles players Danica Kuntz and Cheyenne Hawley coming out on top. The Valley double pairings of Lily Ault and Ella Sandbakken as well as Madelyn Weaver and Sarah Finney each won their matches to give Valley the win.
Tippecanoe Valley plays next at Columbia City Friday evening while Triton plays Saturday morning at the Plymouth Invite.
Manchester at Columbia City
Manchester opened its season with a nice win over Columbia City, winning 4-1 on the road.
No. 2 singles player Myla Crozier was flawless in her victory, winning her match 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 doubles pairing Delani Henderson and Kate Schroll did the same, not losing a game in a straight-set victory. No. 1 and No. 3 singles players Sarah Kerlin and Bethany Penrod also won in straight sets.
Manchester travels to Warsaw Saturday morning for the Tiger Tournament.
Golf
Triton/LaVille at Bremen
Triton earned a second place finish at a three-way match against LaVille and Bremen Wednesday, finishing with a score of 219, 20 strokes behind winners Bremen.
Tucker Worsham was Triton’s highest finisher, ending his day in third place individually. Landon Patrick finished in fifth.
The Trojans will play at the Don Dicken Classic in Warsaw Saturday.
Girls Track and Field
Warsaw at Plymouth
Warsaw won its conference meet with Plymouth Wednesday evening, leaving with a 91-41 victory.
The 3200-meter race was dominated by Rastrelli’s with Sammi barely edging out her sister Joey by just over a second for a victory. Joey picked up a win in the 800-meter race. Anna Bazzoni and Ellianna Transparenti tied for the lead in the pole vault with scores of 9’0”, a foot higher than third place finisher Maggie Barnett.
The Lady Tiger’s next meet is Friday at Franklin Central.
