Ivy Tech Warsaw PTK Chapter Recognized For Positive Impact

This year’s Ivy Tech Warsaw BZK Chapter officers are President Avary Metzger, Vice President Génesis Widick, Secretary Keely Roe, member John Spangle and chapter advisors Lori Roe and Brenda Blair, according to a news release from Ivy Tech.
They were awarded the Power of Progress Award, Distinguished Chapter first Runner-Up, Distinguished Chapter Officer first Runner-Up, College Project Award first Runner-Up, Honors in Action Award first Runner-Up, Five Star Chapter Plan Recognition, Hoosier Leadership Award, Hoosier Fellowship Award, Hoosier Edgiest Chapter Award, Sue Jackson Award for Avary Metzger and Lori Roe and PTK Honor Roll for Nontraditional Students for Caleb Rivich and Génesis Widick.
To earn these honors, the chapter completed several projects throughout the year. The College Project Award goes to an organization that has worked to benefit the culture and strength of their campus. Warsaw’s chapter was rewarded in its efforts to increase enrollment numbers on campus.
They also conducted a study called “The Science of Play” for their Honors in Action project, which researched the impact play has on the stress levels of students by hosting game nights and offering other opportunities during finals week.
Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa has a presence on almost 1,300 community college campuses in 11 nations. The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges in 1929. More than 3.8 million students have been inducted since 1918, with approximately 250,000 active members in the nation’s community colleges, making Phi Theta Kappa a true catalyst among members and colleges. Warsaw’s BZK Chapter will be travelling to Columbus, Ohio, later in April to attend the PTK Catalyst International Convention, vying for many awards. The community is invited to support the chapter by participating in their Panda Express fundraiser on April 26 in Warsaw.
