He was born on April 25, 1955, the son of Russell Paul and Mary Frances Walker Brown in Anderson. On April 25, 1996, he married Kathryn Van Ness.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Brown, of Warsaw; three children: Josh Russell (Amanda) Brown, of Warsaw; Katrina Van Ness, of San Marcos, Calif.; and Morgan (Charles) Pettigrew, of Barbee Lake; 11 grandchildren: Deon Van Ness, Huntter Van Ness, Megan (Austin) Richardson, Whitney Miller, Hannah Van Ness, Breanna Brown, Holly Wood, Hazel Wood, Hope Wood, Harmony Wood, Parker Wood; four great-grandchildren: Wyatt Miller, Kirsten Richardson, Kayden Richardson and Hendrix Van Ness. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Debra Wilson.
Russell grew up in Anderson and moved to North Webster as a teenager. He graduated from Wawasee High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the Marines during Vietnam.
Russell owned and operated Sunrise Roofing and Tile Company in Florida for many years and then owned and operated Brown Trucking until he retired in 2018. He was a longtime member of the North Webster American Legion, Post 253. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish, hunt, boat and had a passion for being on the ocean. He was also an incredible golfer, winning numerous tournaments over the years and landing a hole in one in 2018. Above all else, Russell loved the Lord and was a devoted family man. He never met a stranger and left everyone he came in contact with feeling better. He was the constant rock in his family.
A celebration of Russell’s life will take place on Saturday, April 22 at 4 p.m. at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse. Family and friends will be received from 12 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered at the service.
