Local High School Sports Recaps For 9/22

Warsaw/Wawasee at NLC Championships
Both Warsaw and Wawasee competed at the NLC Tennis Championships at NorthWood Wednesday and Thursday. Both schools were able to send players into the semifinal round.
Wawasee’s No. 1 singles player Joey Harper won his opening match 6-1, 6-3 before falling in the semifinals. Warsaw’s No. 2 and No. 2 singles players Ted Grandon and Keller Bailey also made the semifinals before dropping their matches to opponents from Northridge.
The championship matches will be held Saturday at Warsaw Community High School.
Volleyball
Tippecanoe Valley at Northfield
Tippecanoe Valley dropped its second game in a row Thursday, falling 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 15-25) to Northfield on the road. The Lady Vikings are now 9-10, 2-4 in the Three Rivers Conference. Valley is back at home Monday against Oak Hill.
Maconaquah at Manchester
Manchester won its second match in a row Thursday, defeating Maconaquah in a 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 21-25, 25-17, 15-8) thriller. The Lady Squires are now 9-12, 3-3 in the TRC.
Olivia Davis and McKelvey Espeset each had 10 kills for Manchester. Aliala Atienza had three aces serving the ball. Paxton Baker was extremely busy with 46 digs. Manchester plays its next match Tuesday at home against Northfield.
LaVille at Triton
Triton won its second match in a row Thursday night, taking down LaVille 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20) at home. The Trojans are now 13-6 this season and 5-0 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Addyson Viers (19) and Macie Hensley (18) were at the top of the kills list for Triton. Hannah Snyder had 22 assists while Lena Doll had 14 digs. Triton plays at the Bremen Invite on Saturday.
Boys Soccer
Warsaw at Goshen
It was heartbreak for Warsaw on Thursday as the team lost for just the second time this season, 2-1, at Goshen. The win clinched the NLC Championship for the RedHawks. The Tigers are now 11-2-1 this fall, 3-2 in the NLC.
Warsaw’s Noah VanPuffelen scored the Tigers lone goal to tie the match with ten minutes left, but Goshen was able to find a winner. The Tigers take on Wawasee Saturday afternoon.
Tippecanoe Valley at Lakeland Christian
Goals were at a premium as Tippecanoe Valley took on Lakeland Christian in Winona Lake Thursday night. The Vikings would win the game by a 1-0 score line. Tippy Valley improves to 11-3 after its eighth win in a row, while the Cougars fall to 5-7.
Jonathan Ruiz scored the game’s lone goal in the 22nd minute off an assist by Andreas Rosas. LCA’s Braden Wierick continued a solid campaign in goal with 13 more saves. The Cougars play at Woodlan Saturday while Tippy Valley takes on LaVille on Thursday.
Fort Wayne South Side at Manchester
Manchester picked up a lopsided nonconference win Tuesday, defeating Fort Wayne South Side 5-1 at home. The Squires are now 11-2-1 this season.
Michael Ortiz and Tyler McLain each scored two goals while Liam York had the fifth. Manchester is back in conference play Monday at Maconaquah.
