Donald Imel passed away Sept. 18, 2022, peacefully at home.  

Don was born on Nov. 16, 1947, in Portland, Ind., to William Imel and Clara Marie Hileary Imel. On March 26, 1971, he married Janet Windmiller in Pensacola, Fla.; she survives.

Also surviving are his son, Shawn Imel; wife, Traci; and granddaughter, Raegan, Fort Wayne; son-in-law, Thomas Ross; and grandsons: Andrew and Aaron, all of Warsaw; sister, Thelma Myers, Portland, Ind.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Imel; and daughter, Heather Imel Ross.  

Don served in the Navy then graduated from Indiana University in 1974. He worked as a bank examiner for the FDIC after retirement he continued to work as a consultant for several years after that.

Don enjoyed spending time with the children and grandchildren as well as spending the winters with his wife Janet in Gulf Shores, Ala.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Friday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, at a later date with military honors.

The family kindly request the memorial donations to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
