Local High School Sports Recaps For 9/15 & 9/16

Warsaw/Tippecanoe Valley at Sectional
Warsaw and Tippecanoe Valley began the first sectional play of the fall sports calendar at Rozella Ford Golf Course Friday. Both The Tigers and Lady Vikings will advance to the regional after Tippy Valley finished second with a 355 and Warsaw in third with a 362. It is the second time in school history the Lady Vikings have qualified for a regional as a team
Abbey Peterson and Olivia Robinson-Gay were at their usual places atop the leaderboard for Warsaw, shooting an 84 and 83. Madelyn Weaver shot an 84 to lead the Lady Vikings and Lily Ault was not far behind with an 88. Regionals begin next weekend.
Volleyball
Warsaw at Plymouth
Warsaw remains undefeated in Northern Lakes Conference play after defeating Plymouth 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) Thursday night. The Tigers are now 13-6 and 4-0 in the NLC.
Delaney Silveus had a great night serving the ball, totaling five aces. Avery Hales had 26 digs and also added a block. Kaylee Weeks and Melaina Hawblitzel each had eleven kills. Warsaw travels to Carroll Tuesday for its next match.
Concord at Wawasee
Wawasee is still searching for its first conference win of the season after falling 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 19-25) to Concord Thursday night. The Warriors are now 9-5 this fall, 0-3 in the NLC.
Mackenzie Hackleman led all Wawasee players with eight kills. Jolie Likens had 23 digs. Wawasee will host its home invitational on Saturday.
Whitko at Southwood
Whitko had its eight-game winning streak snapped by Southwood Thursday as the Lady ‘Cats fell 3-0 (16-25, 14-25, 11-25) on the road. Whitko is now 15-2 this season, 4-1 in the Three Rivers Conference and will be at the Wawasee Invitational Saturday morning.
Bethany Christian at Triton
Triton dropped its second match in a row Thursday night, falling 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 16-25, 20-25) at home to Bethany Christian. The Trojans are now 11-6 this fall and play their next game Tuesday at Winamac.
Boys Soccer
Peru at Tippecanoe Valley
Tippecanoe Valley is heating up after getting its fourth win in a row Thursday in a 8-0 home victory over Peru. The Vikings have scored six goals or more in all four games during the win streak, and are now 7-3, 3-3 in the TRC.
Gio Arriaga had a huge night, playing a part in five goals. The striker had four goals and assisted on a fifth. Jonathan Ruiz also added two goals. The Vikings play at the Husky Invite Saturday morning.
Girls Soccer
Warsaw at Penn
Warsaw girls soccer won its fifth straight game Thursday night, beating Penn 2-0 on the road. The Tigers are now 9-2-2 this fall.
Lola Pepper continued an outstanding freshman season by scoring both of the Warsaw goals. Sarah Kratzsch had two assists. It’s a quick turnaround for Warsaw, which travels Saturday morning to take on Mishawaka Marian.
Elkhart Christian at Wawasee
Wawasee suffered a tough loss at the hands of Elkhart Christian Thursday night, falling 6-2 on the road. The Warriors are now 1-7-3 this season.
The two teams were tied at 2-2 at halftime before the visitors exploded for four goals in the second half. Wawasee takes on Northridge Tuesday.
Boys Tennis
Warsaw at NorthWood
Warsaw earned a road victory Thursday, defeating NorthWood 4-1 on the road.
Keller Bailey earned a very impressive No. 3 singles victory, winning his match 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Nick Boren and Khareus Miller took a 6-0, 6-4 win. The Tigers are back in action Saturday at the Wawasee tournament.
