Local High School Sports Recaps For 10/8

Warsaw/Manchester/Triton/Tippecanoe Valley at Sectional
Plenty of local athletes were in action Saturday morning competing at Sectional 7 at Manchester High School. The Warsaw boys and girls teams would share a ton of team and individual success on the day, finishing in first place in both divisions. Manchester also would advance its boys and girls teams to the regional, finishing second in the girls’ race and fourth in the boys. The Triton girls team will also advance after finishing fifth.
The Tigers Joey Rastrelli continued her phenomenal year with another first place finish, winning the race by nearly 40 seconds. The Lady Squires’ Ayla Cashdollar would finish in fifth place. Tippecanoe Valley’s Chesnee Miller earned the top finish for the Lady Vikings, coming in eleventh.
Warsaw’s Ryun Hoffert finished in second place in the boys’ race, one of three Tigers in the top five. Manchester’s Kyler Dale took eighth. The regional takes place on Saturday at Culver Academies, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Boys Soccer
Manchester vs. Culver Academies
Manchester’s remarkable season came to an end in the championship game of Sectional 22 Saturday. The Squires dropped a competitive game 3-0 to 2A No. 6 Culver Academies. Manchester ends its season with a 12-5-1 record.
Culver scored all three goals during a 10-minute span in the first half. Neither team was able to score in the second half, with the Squires possessing the ball and threatening for a good chunk of time. Senior goalie Kolby Haecker made 21 saves in goal. Manchester will return next season.
Girls Soccer
Warsaw vs. Homestead
Warsaw suffered a heartbreaking loss in the championship match of Sectional 7 Saturday, losing 1-0 to Homestead. The Tigers end their season with a 13-5-2 record.
With the game scoreless after 80 minutes of action, Homestead was awarded a free kick just outside of the penalty box a few minutes into the first overtime half. The team would convert on the chance and hold Warsaw scoreless the rest of the way. Warsaw will return next season.
Volleyball
Whitko at Whitko Invitational
Whitko continued what has been a very strong campaign by winning their home invitational Saturday. The Lady ‘Cats went a perfect 3-0, beating DeKalb, South Side and Fort Wayne Wayne, each match in straight sets. Whitko is now 25-5.
Morgan Howard led the team with 37 assists. Audra Brandenburg finished with 25 kills and Maddison Cripe had 32 digs. The Lady ‘Cats have a bye into the semifinal of Sectional 37 and will play the winner of Bluffton and Bishop Luers on Saturday.
Football
Knox at Triton
Triton took part in another high scoring affair Friday night, coming up short in a 38-32 loss to Knox. The Trojans are now 5-3, 3-3 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Anthony Schuh was his usual self, scoring three touchdowns, two of them coming on runs of 44 yards, and rushing for 164 yards. Triton only held the ball for 13 minutes of game time compared to Knox’s 35. Triton will look to get back in the win column Friday at home against Winamac.
Manchester at Maconaquah
Manchester fought hard against a good Maconaquah team Friday night but ultimately was unable to come away with the win in a 26-18 road loss. The Squires are 1-7 this season, 1-6 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Quarterback Brock Casper threw for 171 yards, 151 of them to receiver Memphis Wood. Wood would catch Casper’s lone touchdown pass. Mason Rooney picked up 68 yards and a score on the ground. Manchester wraps up its regular season with Peru Friday.
