Honor Flight

As we have just celebrated Veterans Day, I feel that I need to say thank you for a recent honor which I received as a veteran. In October, I was invited to go on a Veterans Day Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. The flight was instigated by Honor Flights of Northeastern Indiana. They are out of Huntertown, Indiana. It was their 40th flight by this organization. This flight was sponsored by Culvers.
There were more than 80 veterans. Each veteran was accompanied by a guardian. My guardian was John Karr. It was a busy but long day as we flew from Baer Field about 5 a.m. on American Airlines. Our return to Fort Wayne was about 10 p.m.
During the day, we were shuffled by bus to each of the military memorials. I most liked the World War II Memorial. It was the first memorial to veterans. Of course, we also visited the Vietnam Memorial. I did not serve in Vietnam, but was a member of the Army at that time.
This was their first trip without a World War II veteran.
There were many volunteers to help guide and to answer our questions. They also supplied us with three meals.
But most of all, I was almost overcome as we returned as excited by weary persons We were greeted by more than 150 people and to thank each of us for our service.
A big thank you to John Karr, my guardian. Thank you to Honor Flights of Northeastern Indiana and all of the great volunteers for a wonderful day.
Thank you,
Seward A. Guy

P.S. They are still looking for more veterans for future trips. Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana, P.O. Box 5, Huntertown, IN 46748
