Girls Basketball

Warsaw at Norwell

Warsaw girls basketball started its season with a tough loss on the road Saturday night, falling 61-47 to Norwell. This marks the fifth straight matchup in the series, which Warsaw now leads 6-5, that the home team has come out on top.

It was a tough night offensively for the Lady Tigers as the team shot just 15-56 from the field and 7-24 from the 3-point line. Brooke Zartman and Brooke Winchester carried the scoring load for the team, scoring 18 and 19 points. Winchester finished the game with a double-double, adding 13 rebounds as well. Abbey Peterson had two steals.

Warsaw hosts Tippecanoe Valley on Thursday.

Tippecanoe Valley at South Bend St. Joseph

Tippcanoe Valley remains undefeated on the young season after picking up its second road win in as many tries Saturday. The Lady Vikings defeated St. Joseph 58-49 to improve to 2-0.

Kaydence Mellott led Tippecanoe Valley in scoring for the second straight game, putting in 21 points. Molly Moriarty and Corinna Stiles both had nine points in support.

The Lady Vikings play their first home game of the season Tuesday night against Culver Academies.

Wawasee at Prairie Heights

Wawasee picked up its second straight win by double-digits to begin its season Saturday, defeating Prairie Heights 55-36 on the road to improve to 2-0.

The Warriors got out to a blistering start, outscoring their opponent 29-12 in the first half. Wawasee will look to keep its undefeated start alive Tuesday at home against Fairfield.

Volleyball

Warsaw’s Hepler Named Coach of the Year

Warsaw’s Chandra Hepler was named as the Northern Lakes Conference coach of the year following the 2022 volleyball season. Hepler lead the Tigers to a 24-9 record, a sectional championship and a spot in the regional championship game.

Along with Hepler, four Tiger players were named to the all-conference team. Seniors Avery Hales and Kaylee Weeks, junior Melaina Hawblitzel and freshman Ellie Hepler were four of sixteen players named.
