AKRON – Elva M. Prater, 78, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022, in Goshen.

Elva was born Sept. 18, 1943, in Lancer, Ky., the daughter of John and Josephine Burchett Fannin and they preceded her in death. Elva married Delmar Prater in Laketon on Nov. 17, 1962.

She worked for Warsaw Community Schools as a bus driver and was the head custodian at Eisenhower Elementary School when she retired. She enjoyed golfing, camping, working in her woodworking shop and loved most of all spending time with her family. She was loved dearly by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by three sons: James (Brenda) Prater, of Warsaw; Bobby (Kathryn) Prater, of Grand Ledge, Mich.; and Kevin (Sarah) Prater, of Akron; grandchildren: Joshua (Brittany) Prater, Matraca (Andrew) Thrasher, Zachary Prater (fiancé Kelsey Linder), Alexandria Prater, Addison Prater, Dakota Prater and Zach Webb; great-grandchildren; Warren Thrasher and Cecilia DiVaccaro; and brothers: Willie Fannin and Jimmy and wife Hilda Fannin.

Elva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmar, on May 17, 2022; and a granddaughter, Mirissa DiVaccaro.

Private family services will take place. The interment will be in the Sycamore Cemetery, Mentone.

The arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.
